1. Categories.
At Reddit you just submit, at Digg I often struggle to find a suitable category, it’s like they started creating categories, but stopped before they had finished.
2. Submission.
Submission at Reddit is easier. You don’t have to worry about writing a description, just a good title is all you need. Nor do you get asked “Are you really sure you want to submit this article?” If it is a duplicate URL, Reddit automatically deals with it, giving credit to original poster.
3. Dugg and Buried
A popular article at DIGG with many votes, can easily be dugg and buried by a small minority of readers. At Reddit, people can only voted down an article. Reddit is a simple democracy. At Digg moderators are more powerful

4. Speed of submissions
At Digg new submissions, fly off the first page (at least if you are a new user). Because there are less people at Reddit there seems to be a better chance of getting established.
5. Friends not Important.
To do well at Reddit, you don’t seem to need many friends to vote on your articles. You feel it is a real meritocracy, stories get voted on whether they are good or not. Even the top redditors are not guarnanteed of getting a successful article.
6. You can Submit Your own stuff.
Because Reddit are fairly confident only good stories get to the front page, it doesn’t matter whether you submit yours or other stories. Digg seem to discourage it. You can also resubmit stuff at Reddit if you think it is worth it.
7. Good Karma
At Reddit the system of Karma is clear, transparent and easy to understand. If you submit good articles other people like your karma increases. If you just submit spam and useless stuff you will get low Karma. Because your Karma is obvious there is transparency. At Digg your karma is not obvious.

There is another less technical reason reddit.com is better than digg, although it may be in part because of technical factors: the quality of top-rated stories at reddit is consistently higher.
