80 Tips to Make Money Online

Getting Your Website / Blog

1. Choose Your Niche. Choosing a good niche is essential to a successful blog. It must be good for you and a profitable in terms of advertising.

2. Interest in Blog. You must have an interest / knowledge in the topic. Don’t blog on something you don’t know about

3. Some Niches are much more profitable. It is worth bearing in mind that if you are getting a very high return on ad clicks, it is remarkable how quickly you can develop an interest in your profitable niche.- I never knew Mortgages could be so interesting.

4. Finance The niche should ideally be related to a product which has a financial value. If you blog about funny videos don’t expect a high click value rate. If you can get traffic for a blog about finance, insurance, mortgages, you can expect a higher return.

5. Motivation and Interest can Make any niche profitable. Any niche can make money so long as you can drive enough traffic. So if you have a real knowledge, interest in one subject that could be the one that is the most successful for you.

6. Blog on Products Blogging about Products is another way to make High revenue. If you blog about philosophy, general life, advertisers have no products to advertise. if you blog about different goods like computers, cameras there is a wide range of advertising programmes you can use like Amazon, bidvertiser e.t.c

7. Get your own domain. Don’t use a free domain like .blogspot and .wordpress. It looks bad, people / advertisers will take you less seriously. It will be harder to get links. You will regret it at some point, maybe not today, but you will regret it.

8. Make Bold Decisions. If you currently have a .blogspot address. – Change it now.

9. Choose a catchy domain, if possible with keywords. The ideal domain should be 2-3 syllables, which are memorable and remain in people’s mind. If you can get related keywords it will help. However, it is not essential as some people claim. Choose carefully, there comes a point when changing your domain is painful work. Memorable blog titles “Problogger” “Pick The Brain” “Copyblogger” “Lifehack.org” “Net Writing… :)

Choosing Your Blogging Platform

10. Choose Wordpress. It’s that simple.

11. Plugins for any Need. Wordpress offers great flexibility, a variety of plugins, and choice of themes. It is being continuously developed and improved. It is also stable. You can customise it as much or as little as you want. Many have made the transition from blogger to wordpress.

12. My Experience. I switched several blogs from blogger to wordpress. I’m sure other blog software have their merits, but, having tried a few different ones I recommend wordpress as the most effective and easy to use.

Getting Started

13. A good, solid design is a must. True, you want to avoid spending too much time on frills and cosmetics. But, it has to look professional.

14. Avoid Looking Ordinary. Do not just use a standard blog theme. At least create a unique header.

15. Content is King. Sorry a bit of cliche but, work on creating content Writing High quality, interesting articles.

16. Be Patient. Don’t be despondent if traffic is slow in the beginning. Don’t worry about your earnings, or lack of them for the first 6 months. It takes time to get traffic.

17. Spread the Word. Let people know you have a new blog. This can be done through targeted emails plus commenting on other blogs.

Building Links

18. Links. Increasing inbound links is essential for getting Page Rank and Traffic. Ideally these should be from a variety of sources, preferably from established, high ranking sites.

19. Natural Links. You have to have something worth linking to. Forgive me if you’ve read this 100 times, but, it does need to be stressed that the best links are natural links i.e. people like what they see and link without being asked.

20. Grow your RSS readership. This group of readers may not click on your ads, but they are much more likely to be bloggers themselves. It is these RSS readers who are the most likely to start linking to you. Again, be patient, the first 100 subscribers is always the hardest 100 to get.

21. Blog Carnivals are a great source of links. Find relevant blog carnivals to your niche and submit your best posts. Some of the popular blog carnivals can also send a high amount of traffic.

22. Link Exchanges – I don’t really recommend participating in link exchanges, I find they are often more trouble than they are worth.

23. Link Directories - Again I’m not too keen on these, but, they can’t hurt. It is worth submitting your blog to the major blog directories like Blog Flux.

How To Build RSS Subscribers

24. Guest Blogging. Writing posts for top blogs enables you to get well known by new readers. The traffic is very well targeted, therefore, there is usually a high conversion rate of visitors.

25. Guest Post on top Blogs. Writing on a popular blog gives a better chance of getting on Digg home page. If an article is popular it can send you traffic over a long period.

26. Encourage subscription. Make it easy for people to subscribe and offer rewards for doing so.

27. A consistent posting frequency. Once a day, is a very good posting frequency. But, to build RSS readership I would always recommend quality over quantity. 2 superb posts per week can get your blog noticed. 10 mediocre posts will be lost

Writing Tips

28. Lists. Use Lists and bullet points to make articles more accessible and easy to scan. Many of the most popular articles on the net are top 10, top 7 or top 101 Articles.

29. Writing should be clear and to the point. Don’t add unnecessary words.

30. Good grammar and spelling are important. Even if you make small mistakes these will be picked up by someone. It is worth avoiding some of the most common, but obvious mistakes. Like confusing it’s its and their there.

31. Be Persuasive and Confident. Don’t just sit on the fence, try and make your writing thought provoking and original.

32. Make the article focused. Don’t try to cover several topic at once. It is better to break it up into several sections.

33. Pillar Posts. Take time to write articles that are very high quality. Some people refer to these as “Pillar posts”. These articles are a chance to show the best that your blog has to offer.

Design

34. Best posts should be visible. Make sure your best posts are not hidden. A new visitor should be able to easily find them.

35. Keep It Simple. Don’t offer too many choices – it can confuse readers. Make it clear where you would like them to go.

36. Have a memorable logo and design.

37. Tag Line. Don’t underestimate the importance of a good tag line. It helps to tell people what the blog is straight away.

38. Pictures. Use pictures every now and then. Pictures create a powerful visual impact and encourage people to stay on the blog for longer.

Advertising

39. Don’t overdo it. Especially in the beginning, don’t overdo the advertising. Too many google adsense blocks makes your blog look spammy.

40. Less is More. Reducing the number of adsense blocks doesn’t necessarily reduce your revenue.

41. Position Ads. Positioning of ads is everything. Click through rates vary tremendously, depending on where they are put. Look at the top adsense earners and see where they put theirs, then try to fit it into your blog.

42. Selling Links Selling links directly or through a thirdparty such as Linkworth used to offer a good route to monetising your blog. (especially if your blog is about blogging and seo). This has changed with google’s discouragement of selling links. Some people are still selling links, but, if you do you have to prepared for some kind of Google penalty. It has created a certain amount of uncertainty with this method of raising revenue.

43. Text Links Should Be Relevant. If you sell links, don’t sell your soul. Make sure the links are worth having. Don’t have gambling links on an seo blog. This point is more important given Google’s recent war against selling links. If your links are closely related to your text, you should be able to escape detection. But, inappropriate links will stick out.
44. Experiment. Experiment with different types of advertising. I find the most effective advertising depends on the type of blog.

45. Advertising Page. Have an advertising page, where you can offer people the opportunity to advertise.

46. Affiliates. Finding a good affiliate link scheme is one of the most important things for maximising the monetary potential of your blog. It gets easier as your blog develops traffic.

47. Paid Reviews. Review Me and paid post can be a good income source, but, don’t let it dominate your blog, as it can turn off regular readers. It is probably advisable to wait until you can command a high price. and not just the minimum $40.

48. Text Link Ads are another good affiliate scheme and can offer good returns for using.

49. Link Worth. I have had a good response from Link Worth

50. Adsense. Google adsense can offer good returns and is easy to implement, especially for new bloggers. But, there is life beyond google adsense. Try not to be dependent on one source of advertising.

51. Google Referrals. If you are able to get the right ads, google referrals can offer a much better return than ordinary adsense ads. Also there is no scope for click fraud. The scheme is still being developed and is likely to improve over time.

Increasing Traffic.

52. Building links is essential for getting higher search engine positions

53. The titles that you choose are very significant. You need to choose keywords that people search for. At the same time, you should choose keywords that don’t have too much competition from other sites. It is best to choose titles with 3-4 keywords in them.

54. Your statistics page shows your most effective keywords. Try variations of these keywords to benefit from related searches (called the longtail) e.g. If people come through “housing market” try “london housing market”

55. Don’t just rely on Search engines, place emphasis on RSS readership. This enables traffic, even if the search engines change their algorithms.

56. Post Frequently – One way to make money online is to go for quantity. I have some blogs where I regularly post 3-4 posts per day. This doesn’t mean the quality necessarily suffers, but I try to write the most relatively quickly. Some posts can be 10-20 mins to write. Not every post has to be super long linkbait.

57. Don’t just use your blog. Some websites I use standard web pages. These are for pages with great keywords, but, not particularly suitable for a blog with a regular readership.

Copy Writing Skills

58. Choose Catchy headlines. To make sure people actually read the article – Tips for headlines

59. The First Sentence is Very Important. – It needs to draw people into the article.

60. Don’t overdo Linkbait type headlines. Don’t forget your average reader as well.

Link Bait.

61. Link bait has an undeserved bad reputation. Link bait is really about creating compelling content that people will want to read and link to.

62. A top 101 can be a good Linkbait

63. A Top 100 list of Bloggers is good linkbait.

64. Try and think of something original that hasn’t done before.

65. The linkbait needs to be promoted, not just written.

66. Email key bloggers who might be interested. Note: it may help if there is some benefit in them. the top 100 bloggers worked well because the bloggers were happy to see themselves in a top 100 list.

67. Ask friends to vote for it on digg and stumble it.

Social Networking

68. Digg can make your blog, but, getting on the homepage of Digg is very difficult, especially for new bloggers.

69. You can spend hours trying to create a good account at Digg. You are probably better off focusing on your own blog. Many of the top bloggers rarely get on digg.

70. Encourage people to vote for articles, offer to return the favour.

71. is great for sending traffic. But, it doesn’t help to vote for your own articles more than once or twice.

72. Traffic isn’t everything. Social bookmarking sites can send lots of traffic, but, they rarely stay for long or subscribe.

Comments

73. Comments can be a way to gain profile for yourself and your blog. The key is to comment on the top blogs in your niche.

74. Comments can also work against you. Be careful about criticising others or being spammy.

75. I advise leaving your real name for your name. Simple but effective.

76. Try and say something more than just “nice post”

77. If you want to say alot, why not post it as a blog post and link to the blog.

78. Keep commenting in perspective, it can help gain a bit of traffic and readers, but it is not the be all and end all to a blog.

79. Thank commentators and encourage them to revisit.

Being Professional

80. Make sure you have a good contact form
