How To Grow Potatoes Amongst other things manure is important.

Previously, I have posted about whether it is a good idea to start a new blog.

Without really planning I have ended up with several blogs. I would like to share them with you and evaluate their usefulness. If you are thinking of having more than 1 blog, you may be able to learn from my mistakes and what has worked for me.

Finance Blog - My most profitable blog. Website gets 500 unique visitors daily, and offers a good rate of return from advertising. Good topic to monetize a blog.

Mortgage News Blog – The old blogger version of the mortgage blog.

Economics Help Blog – Quickest growing blog. Average a minimum of 3 posts per day(except at weekend) – sometimes upto 7 posts a day. Many posts come through answering readers questions on Economics.

Economics Essays – Old Blogger version of Economics Blog. Over 300 entries. Found it useful to have 2 blogs on the same URL. This means a really long post on one blog can get an introduction from the other.

Cycling Blog - Cycling is my hobby, so I find articles quite easy to write. I also find the niche is not too crowded. Hopefully good potential for monetisation when I start writing on cycling products.

World View - The blog for Biography Online. To be honest I prefer adding articles as ordinary webpages rather than blog posts, therefore, blog has been neglected

Non Profit Blogs

  1. Tejvan.co.uk - personal blog, a rather eclectic mix of things.
  2. Sri Chinmoy Inspiration – nearly 300 RSS subscribers in first four months. Probably my best blog in terms of quality. Never post more than 3 times a week. But, each post I try to make very good.
  3. Spirit Blog – Blog of poetry and spirituality and Write Spirit
  4. Richard Pettinger.com – My first blog, used to have everything.

In addition to these, I have to say I have more blogs that have had a short life and then I lost inspiration to post. To be honest it’s better to concentrate on a small number than do too many. However, I do enjoy have several distinct blogs. If I get bored with writing on mortgages (quite common) I can switch to my favourite topics like cycling and self improvement. However, the success of the Mortgage Blog, to me shows the importance of picking topics which have an obvious monetisation strategy. Of all the blogs I have, Net Writing, has proved the most difficult to make any money from. Because it is difficult to earn money it has been sometimes neglected in favour of blogs which offer a better return on time invested.
